Meet our musicians

Lynn Brubaker

Violin

Lynn Brubaker, violin, is a chamber and orchestral musician with experience throughout the United States. Orchestras she has worked with include the San Diego Symphony, the Houston Symphony, the Fredonia, NY Chamber Players, the Toledo Symphony, the Eastern Music Festival, and the New Hampshire Music Festival.

She is at present co-concertmaster of the Bangor Symphony, and she is active as a chamber musician, performing in the Acadia, Nor’easter, and Juniper String Quartets. She maintains a private teaching studio at RDL Strings in downtown Bangor, has taught in the public schools of East Machias, Maine, and at the University of Maine at Machias. She resides in Bangor, Maine.

Victoria Hurlburt Acadia String Quartet

Victoria Hurlburt

Violin

Having recently graduated from the University of Southern Maine with a double major in music education and performance, violinist Victoria Hurlburt is becoming recognized as an exceptional performer in the Southern Maine area. During her college career, she studied violin under the tutelage of Robert Lehmann, and has also had prior instruction under Margaret Hopkins and Ronald Lantz of the Portland String Quartet.

Victoria has had the privilege of working with both professional violinists Ray Chen and Irina Muresanu in violin master classes, was selected as one of the few musicians to participate in the USM annual Honors Recital program which features solo performers chosen by audition. She served as concertmaster for the Southern Maine Symphony Orchestra directed under Robert Lehmann for the 2015 – 2017 seasons.

During the summer, she works and performs at many local music theater venues including Maine State Music Theater, City Theater, Portland Players, Hackmatack Playhouse, Seacoast Reperatory Theatre, Lyric Music Theater, Stages: Performing Arts Society, and Schoolhouse Arts Center. She is also a current member and violinist for the recently formed chamber ensemble group Forêt Endormie performing at local venues including SPACE Gallery, Blue, and the Portland Conservatory of Music. As a freelance musician, she is regularly hired for weddings, holiday events, and other special occasions year-round. In particular, she has an excellent musical connection with the music director and principal organist at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland, ME where she regularly performs both as a soloist and with ensembles for weddings and holiday concerts.

Ryu Mitsuhashi

Violin / Viola

Born in Japan, violinist/violist Ryu Mitsuhashi began studying the violin at age 3.  At age 9 she moved to New York, and was accepted at age 10 into the Pre-College division of The Julliard School. Since then, Ryu has graduated with both a Bachelor’s Degree with a Minor in Jazz as well as a Master’s Degree from the University of Maine, where she retained her concertmaster position throughout her study. Her major teachers include Akiko Silver, Shirley Givens, Angela Eto and Anatole Wieck.

Ryu is a regular substitute with the Bangor Symphony Orchestra, is a fiddle player for the local folk fusion band Tough End String Band, attends summer music festivals including Winter Harbor Music Festival, and plays in pit orchestras for musicals all over the state of Maine. In addition to expanding her own musical field, she has been teaching private violin and viola lessons locally in Maine, and is an instructor for the Chamber Music Institute’s summer festival. Ryu is no stranger to international performances as well. She periodically returns to Japan for performances, and has traveled to perform and tour with international orchestras and concert tour groups, including Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra in Croatia, Camerata Austriaca in Austria and Orchestra for the Festival Vaniloquio in Mexico.

Marisa Solomon Acadia String Quartet

Marisa Solomon

Cello

Cellist Marisa Solomon received cello performance degrees from the Oberlin College and San Francisco Conservatories. She teaches from her private studio in Bangor, as well as at the Ellsworth Community Music Institute (ECMI). Marisa is a member of the Bangor Symphony Orchestra, the Ceólta Cello Duo with Noreen Silver and is on the adjunct faculty at UMaine in Orono.

She has been on the faculty for the Kneisel Hall Program for Maine Students since 2012, and serves on the Chamber Music Society Committee at the Collins Center for the Arts.  Marisa has participated in many festivals, including the Aspen Music Festival, Kneisel Hall, the International Festival-Institute at Round Top, SpoletoUSA, Festival de due Mondi in Spoleto, Italy, and the Breckenridge Music Festival in Colorado.
